September Employee Spotlight

Employee Spotlight: Ryan Glass

Look… at the Library! It's a bird!? It's a plane?! No, it's our REFERENCE LIBRARIAN. Ryan may not have wished to fly, but as a child she did want to be either a witch or geologist. And, while she didn't directly follow one of those paths, as an avid reader she can jump into a book and take on the role of either one of those whenever she likes! Her most recent read was "Fourth Wing" by Rebecca Yarros, and she can't wait for the next book!

Mrs. Ryan Glass, our local Reference Librarian at Liberty Library, has been here with us in England since June 2023. However, she is not new to the military lifestyle; she is a U.S. Air Force spouse of 15 years. Like a lot of military spouses, Ryan is familiar with the challenges associated with creating and maintaining a career of her own. That's why she is so grateful to have the opportunity to work in her career field while stationed overseas.

Ryan's favorite thing about her position at Liberty Library is serving her community, and every library is a little bit different! No matter where she is, she loves getting to learn something new about the many ways a librarian can serve their community. In fact, that's something Ryan wishes more people were aware of – just how much librarians do behind-the-scenes. It's so much more than just scanning books in and out all day!

Recently, Ryan was a huge player in the success of 2023's Summer Reading Program, which is like the Library's "Big Game." Whew! Summer readers had the opportunity to escape into another world – maybe one where they themselves were casting spells or studying rocks. But, if you missed it, don't fret! Liberty Library is awaiting your visit, and what better time to pick up a new book than National Read a Book Day on September 6? Or, if you're feeling inspired by our leap into the Sir-Vis-Verse, try your hand at a graphic novel. Ryan's favorite is "Lore Olympus" by Rachel Smythe.
